- Alternet - Regularly-updated news and opinion, with columnists including Molly Ivins, Norman Solomon, and Jim Hightower

- BuzzFlash - Drudge-style "Daily Headlines and Breaking News" links

- Democracy Now! - Amy Goodman's incredibly popular progressive radio talk show. Exclusive interviews and, at times, entirely original reporting.
- Electronic Intifada - "an online educational gateway to information about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, produced by a small network of activists with a history of Internet and alternative media development"
- Indymedia - As independent as it gets; anyone can submit items. Lack of full moderation can result in a lot of junk, but if you're looking for good protest and activism coverage this is the place.
- Pacifica Radio - The radio foundation and pseudo-network that airs Democracy Now! and a number of other alternative/"free speech" radio programs
- Progressive Populist - Twice-monthly progressive tabloid founded by Jim Hightower with a Heartland/agro focus and regular columnists (well worth the subscription cost)
- Utne Magazine - "reprints the best articles from over 2,000 alternative media sources bringing you the latest ideas and trends emerging in our culture..."
- Z Net/Z Mag - Z Mag is "dedicated to resisting injustice, defending against repression, and creating liberty", and is perhaps the most widely-read magazine with an anarchist/socialist focus. Z Net, by the same crew, is a huge leftwing web portal including original content and forums, sprawling across an untold number of pages.
